Climate and equipment

Climate
- What is most surprising for a relatively small country like Scotland is the wide variations in climate between its different regions.
- The Western Highlands, for example, are wetter and windier than any other part of Scotland due to the mountains and prevailing Atlantic winds. But the climate is also responsible for some of the country's most beautiful landscapes.
- Because of Scotland's high latitude, although the days are short in winter, they are particularly long in the summer months, often with a long twilight. Edinburgh, for example, gets around two and a half hours more sun than Madrid in midsummer, and at the same time of year the far north of Scotland is never in total darkness.
- January and February are generally the coldest months of the year in Scotland, with maximum daytime temperatures averaging between 5°C and 7°C. July and August are generally the warmest months, with an average temperature of 19°C.

Equipment
- Do not forget the road map.
