Day 1

Arriving in Madagascar and heading east

Your driver-guide will meet you at the airport and take you to Stéphane and Santatra.

This first stage will take you to an economic and social development structure set up and run by a Madagascan couple to help the most disadvantaged: Dieudonné's tinplate factory (crafts).

After this visit on the outskirts of the capital, you'll head due east to discover the historic village of Ambatomanga. Wherever you are, Madagascar's landscapes leave no traveller indifferent, and leave plenty of room for escape.

Day 2

Ambatomanga

Exchanges and Malagasy culture

A day's walking in the charming countryside surrounding the village of Ambatomanga. Harivona, your local guide, has a thorough knowledge of the area and will add his comments to the tour. You will meet craftspeople (weavers and blacksmiths) who will show you the extent of their talents.

You'll also be able to exchange ideas with the farmers and learn more about Malagasy culture as you meet them in the field, giving you a better understanding of the difficulties they face on a daily basis.

Day 3

Ambatomanga , Andasibe

The first stop is at the Peyreiras reserve to get a closer look at chameleons, butterflies and snakes.

Then it's on to the very heart of the village of Andasibe, to the home of one of the members of the MATOR association (Madagascar Tourisme Rural). She will give you a warm welcome and introduce you to the association and its activities, as well as the programme for the next few days.

The programme is made up of a wide range of activities that are adapted according to the weather and the work in progress within the families.

Meals and accommodation are with local people.

Day 4

Andasibe

Participatory day in the village

Participatory day in the village

In the morning, a visit to Analamazoatra National Park gives you the chance to observe Madagascar's largest lemur and several other species, not forgetting the chameleons and this exceptional flora.

During the afternoon, you will experience the daily life of these families, whose activities are mainly focused on farming and household chores: work in the fields, shopping at the market, cooking (exchanging recipes), roasting and pounding coffee.

Lunches are taken in the company of your hosts and include Malagasy dishes.

An evening of traditional song and dance.

Day 5

Andasibe, Ambavaniasy

Vohimana private reserve

A final breakfast in the company of these women farmers before heading off to the small village of Ambavaniasy, 45 minutes from Andasibe. This is followed by a 45-minute walk (with porters) to get closer to the Vohimana private reserve.

This site is on the edge of a protected forest teeming with a wealth of natural flora and fauna.

This is a free afternoon to make the most of the site.

As night falls, we take a short guided walk before dinner to observe the nocturnal life of this forest.

Discovering flora and fauna

During the morning, you will meet the villagers and the spiritual representative of these souls. Discuss and share their way of life, their agricultural crops and the methods used to build their houses.

Lunch at a local's house.

Then it's the turn of this beautiful forest to show you all its secrets during a discovery walk accompanied by a guide from the NGO.

Day 7

You leave the Vohimana reserve and reach the village of Manambato after taking the Rn2 and the 7km track to Lake Rasoabe, where your boat is waiting.

You will then sail between the lakes and the Pangalanes Canal in a peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for contemplation. On arrival, you will be offered a tour of the village of Andranokoditra before heading off to your local ecolodge, created by Nolah and Nini in an exotic setting.

Your morning begins with a boat trip along the Canal des Pangalanes and the shores of Lake Ampitabe. This is followed by a visit to a village high above the canal in the company of your local guide. (Coffee trees, fruit trees and rice fields). Lunch will be taken at Nolah and Nini's after your return.

In the afternoon, you can meet the village's craftswomen and go in search of their raw materials before taking part in a basket-making and fish-net-making workshop.

Day 9

Canal des Pangalanes , Mahambo

From the banks of the Canal des Pangalanes to the shores of the Indian Ocean

Witnessing the departure of the fishermen on the Indian Ocean in a pirogue is an emotionally powerful moment, especially in winter when the waves are so strong. Then, after breakfast, you will board Nolah's boat to enjoy your last hours of sailing on the Canal des Pangalanes, taking you to a small local port 30km from the town of Tamatave, where you will have lunch.

It's a 3.5-hour drive to the charming fishing village of Mahambo, where you will be staying.

The guest room in which you are welcomed gives our travellers the impression of being on Reunion Island for a moment.

The nearby lagoon offers wonderful sunsets.

Day 10

Mahambo, Ile sainte Marie

The first few hours of the day are free for a swim in the lagoon before boarding the boat for the island of Ste Marie.

Arriving on the island of Ste Marie, a vehicle transfer will take you to the south of the island to a small, charming hotel close to the Ile aux nattes.

These two days are offered with free activities so that you can enjoy this beautiful island of Ste Marie and its surroundings at your leisure:
