Discover Senegal in a different way through the solidarity projects of ICD Afrique, which has the ATES (Association du Tourisme Equitable et Solidaire) label. Set off for 13 days in a group of no more than 12 people and meet the women of the GIEs, the children of the AFIA primary school, the villagers of Thiobon and much more... Travel by pirogue and eat at local people's homes or in village camps!

Day 1

Paris, Diass

Arrival in Senegal

Arrival in Senegal

Arrival at Blaise Diagne airport in DIASS (70km from Dakar), then on to La Somone for a night at the Keur Yakaar hostel.

Day 2

La Somone, Ziguinchor

La Somone & Pirogue

La Somone & Pirogue

After breakfast at the hotel, explore the small town of La Somone and its markets and typical districts.

Visit to the Somone marine protected area by pirogue. Lunch at the inn.

In the afternoon, departure at 2.00 pm for the airport and the AutDiass-Ziguinchor flight. Dinner and overnight at Le Perroquet hotel in Ziguinchor.

Day 3

Ziguinchor , Blouf , Koubalan

Women & Market gardening

Women & Market gardening

In the morning, we travelled to Blouf, in the department of Bignona, to meet the women's groups benefiting from our support programme for small-scale rural entrepreneurship and the creation of cooperatives for the production and processing of organic fruit and vegetables.

Villages and market garden areas to visit: Bassire, meeting with the women and tour of the market garden area, small-scale organic chicken farming; village of Karthiack: meeting with the women and tour of the fruit and vegetable processing unit; village of Thiobon, sharing of a collective meal prepared in the market garden area (culinary demonstration + know-how) with vegetables produced in the garden...).

After lunch, departure for Affiniam to reach Ziguinchor by pirogue up the Casamance River. Overnight stay at Le Perroquet hotel.

Day 4

Enampore , Oussouye , Diembéring

Departure for Enampore.

Visit to the impluvium huts. Lunch at the village camp.

Departure for the kingdom of Oussouye. Visit to a craft workshop run by disabled women. Then Seghalène (cashew nut processing, etc.). Visit to a craft workshop run by disabled women). We then continue on to Elinkine to board a pirogue and reach the Katakalous bridge.

End of the tour by minibus to Diembéring. Overnight at the Asseb camp in Diembéring.

Day 5

Visit to the village of Diembéring.

Lunch at Cap Skirring, visit to the fishing port.

Back to Ziguinchor with a stop in Edioungou to visit Eveline the potter. On arrival in Ziguinchor, a stop at the crocodile farm. Meal in town at the French Cultural Centre or at a local home. Overnight at Le Perroquet in Ziguinchor.

Day 6

Ziguinchor , Tambacounda

Departure by minibus in the morning for Tambacounda, heading up towards Eastern Senegal.

Lunch break in Kolda. Check-in at the Niji hotel in the late afternoon.

Visit to Tambacounda and presentation of ICD Afrique's activities (Overnight stay at the Niji hotel):

Meeting with AFIA primary school and children
Tambasocé: Visit to the secondary school and health post
Meeting with MSEs from the Small Rural Entrepreneurship programme: natural soap and organic market gardening

Day 8

Tambacounda , Dialacoto

The programme varies and can be adapted to suit individual interests.

In the morning, continuation of the visits described on the previous day in the Tambacounda region or departure at the end of the morning for Dialacoto.

Trip to Dialacoto (overnight stay at the Friends of Nature camp),

Visit the village and the projects that have been developed: school, health post, rural family home, etc.
Visit to the Wassadou banana plantation
Evening visit to the community garden

For others, overnight stay at the Hotel Niji.

Day 9

Niokolo-Koba National Park

Early start for the visit to the Park.

Lunch at the Simenti hotel. Afternoon pirogue trip on the River Gambia (hypos and crocodiles...)

Return to Tambacounda in the late afternoon.

In the evening, visit the craft village and dinner at the village restaurant... (Overnight stay at Hotel Niji)

Day 10

Presentation of the state of progress of the "Women and Shellfish" programme: a project to which a market gardening and agroforestry component will be added in collaboration with the Senegalese NGO ENDA.

Departure in the morning by pirogue for the islands of Falia, Dioffior and Niodior. Visit and presentation of these Sérère-Niominka island villages (dispensary, school, college, etc.). Visit to shellfish processing units. Meeting and discussions with the women of the GIEs.

Dinner and overnight stay in Palmarin or Djiffer

Lunch in Nianing at Le Benténier camp, hosted by our friend Nadine Diop.

Overnight at the Cap Ouest hotel by the ocean.

Tour of Dakar (Ile de Gorée or Ngor)

Visit to the historic districts and Soumbédioune (crafts and fishermen).

Lunch in Gorée (or elsewhere).

Final shopping and departure for the airport in the late afternoon. Departure for France in the evening.

  • Preparation for the trip, including one or more travel information sessions before departure and the provision of all necessary information and documents
  • Support from ICD-Afrique throughout your stay, from the moment you arrive

  • All accommodation (campsite, hotel or stopover gîte as mentioned) and meals provided for in the programme, as well as water with meals.

* Payment of 50 % of the cost of the trip at the time of booking in order to block the plane tickets. Payment of the balance at least 1 month before departure. An invoice or receipt will be issued and a certificate of stay or mission can be provided on return from the trip. A CERFA tax certificate will be issued in the case of a solidarity mission or various donations for income tax reduction.

Climate and equipment

In December, Dakar enjoys a good 8 hours of sunshine a day, with an estimated 1 day of rain for the month, so you should be dry! Temperatures average between 20°C and 28°C, but depending on the year, they can drop to 12°C and rise to 36°C.
Watch out for mosquitoes! We recommend that you wear long, loose-fitting clothes.

Health

Be physically fit to travel in a dry tropical climate
We recommend :
- Getting vaccinated against yellow fever
- We recommend that you are up to date with your DTPolio, BCG and hepatitis A vaccinations.
- Consult a doctor before travelling
- Take an anti-malarial treatment

Formalities

French nationals wishing to visit Senegal for a stay of less than 3 months must carry a passport valid for more than 6 months. Visas are not required.
