Visits :
Ryoan-ji Temple, a remarkable example of a Zen garden of stones and sand. The fifteen stones are arranged in such a way that no more than fourteen can be seen at any one time.
The gold-leaf-covered Kinkakuji, the famous Golden Pavilion, nestled in a beautiful, romantic setting, houses sacred relics of Buddha on the banks of a pond in a peaceful, restful park.
Nijô Castle, the official residence of the Tokugawa shoguns who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. It is the only surviving example of a residence of Japan's great politicians of that era. Built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in the 17th century, it retains some fine original decorative features, such as coffered ceilings, painted doors, screens from the Kano school and 'nightingale' floors, designed to betray intruders by emitting a sort of chirping sound at the slightest step.
A stroll through the narrow streets of the historic district of Gion. Its wooden houses are home to traditional shops, teahouses and geisha residences.
The Kiyomizu temple, from where we can admire the panoramic view over the city. The temple's main building is built into the hillside on a platform supported by stilts.
From Higashiyama, Ishibe and Nene streets take you to the livelier centre of Kyoto and Yasaka temple.
Return to your hotel around 5.30pm.
