Crossing villages, hiking and meeting with the Peduli Alam association
In the morning, departure for the animist village of Tenganan, home to the Bali Aga people who have always made Ikat and basketry, and whose houses are veritable art exhibitions. Visit the village, followed by a 2-hour hike through a landscape of earthly paradise dominated by the Agung volcano. Stop off at a "warung", a Balinese stall, to sample a coconut. Arrive at the village of Bebandem, then continue by car to the royal baths of Tirtagganga, surrounded by rice fields. Lunch in a small restaurant. Continue on to the fishing village of Amed where you will meet the Peduli Alam association (which means "taking care of nature" in Indonesian). Return to Sidemen in the late afternoon. Dinner at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Peduli Alam's aim is to help villagers become aware of the impact on nature and health of incinerating or dumping waste into nature, rivers and the sea. And to do this by providing simple, easily accessible solutions.
Please note: outside tourist areas, there is no rubbish collection system.
