From the desert to Marrakech

From the desert to Marrakech

Back to Marrakech via Tamgroute, where we will stop off at the Naceria zaouia, one of the most prestigious zaouias in North Africa. Its medersa boasts a rich and unique library: nine-century-old manuscripts, precious scientific treatises, religious works dating back to the Andalusian Golden Age and illuminated Korans.

Just outside the village is the potters' cooperative, Tamgroute's other pride and joy.
These pottery workshops, the oldest and most famous in Morocco, have existed since the 16th century. Seven families work here, totalling 260 people. The potters still work in the traditional way. They extract their clay from underground galleries, and prepare their slip by treading on it. They fire their pottery in traditional kilns heated with palms and dry bushes. Tamgroute ceramics, with their subtle green hues of reseda and fir, are renowned throughout Morocco.

Arrive in Marrakech at the end of the day and check into your hotel. Dinner and overnight in a hotel*** (or riad optional)

Climate and equipment

The mild climate from autumn to spring (between October and the end of April) lends itself well to hiking and allows for bivouacs. Temperatures depend on the period: during the day 15/30° - in the evening 5/15°.
Equipment, supervision and difficulties :
The group travels on foot; luggage, bivouac equipment and supplies for the trek are carried by camels. You carry only your rucksack for the day with your personal belongings; choose a comfortable one. Take a soft travel bag as your luggage. Limit the weight to 15kgs maximum.
The guides: Licensed Moroccan guides, fluent in French. They are professionals committed to quality and ethics. In addition to their technical skills and perfect knowledge of the terrain, their involvement in cultural associations will give you that extra something that makes your trips unforgettable.
The cooks: they'll whip up some tasty dishes, brightened up by the spices that make their cuisine so tasty - an essential plus for your tour. They'll also be able to adapt the menus to suit your children.
Our camel drivers: Very few of them speak French. But their kindness, their sense of sharing and the music they play in the evenings mean you'll communicate very well with them. They are farmers, shepherds or nomads, often married with families. Accompanying the treks is an important sideline for them: it enables them to buy tea, sugar, oil, exercise books and books for the children.
Our loyal and motivated teams are here to make your stay a success!

Our opinion

This tour is ideal for discovering the desert as a family with very young children (a saddle dromedary is optional and costs €90). It's a fun way to get away from it all. With walking times of 5 hours a day with breaks, and bivouacs in the dunes. This tour is also suitable for anyone who prefers an easy route. You'll need equipment for walking and bivouacs: duvets, walking shoes, etc.
