The time of year is an important factor, as there are only 2 main seasons in Russia: Winter and summer. The coldest month is January (February on the coast), with an average temperature in St Petersburg of 8°C. In summer, the average temperature in Russia is 20°C. Temperatures can vary greatly, so make sure you wear appropriate clothing.
It is advisable to keep your diphtheria-tetanus-polio (+/- whooping cough) vaccination up to date.
Other vaccinations recommended (depending on hygiene conditions and length of stay): typhoid fever, viral hepatitis A and B, Central European tick-borne encephalitis, seasonal influenza vaccine and meningococcal meningitis.
Rabies: the utmost caution is recommended when dealing with stray animals. Prevention is based on avoiding contact with suspect animals and preventive vaccination.

To enter the Russian Federation, you must have the necessary documents, including a valid visa. This can be obtained from the Russian Embassy in Paris or from the Russian consulates in Strasbourg or Marseille.
